We all wish we had more cash than what we have presently but that's not going to happen in a day or two unless you have found the genie in the bottle.  Being more realistic can help though. Let's look at this equations:

MORE CASH= MORE INCOME + MORE SAVINGS

MORE SAVINGS = MORE FRUGALITY

So, combining the two equations above gives us,

MORE CASH= MORE INCOME + MORE FRUGALITY

Now, more income generation may be difficult to exercise for everybody (and it's a topic of its own) but frugality is definitely an area that one can master and solve most of the financial crisis. Experience shows that hard earned money is quickly spent on luxuries and unnecessary items. If we can cultivate a habit of controlling our spending spree than we can be much better off, financially speaking.

There is actually a very long list of things that one can do to increase savings but the key to implementing it, is the will to change one's habits and learn to not care-a-damn about what people are going to think or say. Afterall these 'people' aren't really increasing your bank balance, so why care? A good friend will always encourage good habits and right motives, so know who your real friends are and share with them the reasons behind your changed lifestyle. Once you have firmly decided to adopt a money saving lifestyle you can start practicing any of the points below that may be applicable to you.

Along with practicing below strategies, do remind yourself time and again that little drops of water make a mighty ocean. So have patience. You won't become a millionaire by adopting this lifestyle (but who knows, you just may!), but you will definitely be able to clear your debts slowly and have some emergency savings in a long run.

  • As we all know, knowledge is power. List out your monthly expenditure category-wise against the sources of income and add an extra column preferably in RED for the list of debts. Eg. Rent, electricity, water, fuel, luxuries! Yes, the last word is actually what you are aiming to cut down.

BE A SMART SHOPPER:

  • Make a list of the things that you want to buy and stick to it. Random shopping usually leads to buying unnecessary items and overspending.
  • Do not be influenced by what others are buying or what TV commercials recommend.
  • Buy only those things that you will really use.
  • Buy quality goods for regular use as this will last longer although they may be a little costlier initially but saves you recurrent costs.
  • Don't be afraid to look for used goods. Usually they are still in good condition and cheaper, your purpose served.
  • Try generic or store brands than branded goods. Experience shows that they serve the same purpose in a long run and save a lot of cash!
  • Avoid flashy malls which only add up holes in your pockets instead search for cheaper shops that sells similar products.
  • Always develop a habit of comparing prices before buying goods.
  • If you come across a tempting item that you want to buy, give yourself few weeks of thinking over it. Many a times, after a while you realise that it was nothing but an added cost.  Avoid impulsive shopping.
  • Buy items for personal use only after what you have is about to be over.
  • Larder items that have maximum use and are imperishable can be bought in bulk: will cost you lesser while less often used perishable items should be bought in smaller quantities.
  • Choose your clothes wisely. Buy say, five pairs of pants with 7 shirts and three ties all such that they can be mix and matched! You will have a new look each day of the week and saved cash in your pocket!

EAT TO LIVE; DON'T LIVE TO EAT.

Now, we all know that food is a necessity and I wasn't meaning that you start fasting 24/7/365! As per general observation, most wasted cash is on food items. Here is what I mean:

  • Go for healthy food choices like fresh veggies rather than canned or stored foods. They are better for both, your health and your pocket.
  • Minimise non-veg consumption from daily to once or twice a week. Be healthier and wealthier.
  • Prepare your own meals. This is the best way to save.
  • Learn some few easy recipes that require less number of common ingredients which are readily available and not too costly e.g potatoes, onions, tomatoes etc. Here is a fact: with only potato you can make over 40 recipes! Try mashed potatoes today.
  • Invest in a good cook book that suits your taste and time, if you are new to cooking.
  • You may, alternatively, search online for recipes. That's what I personally do when my tastebuds tingle. Mind you, I am no amateur in the cooking field.
  • For those of you who are too busy to prepare a meal on time, cook in bulk instead when the time permits (like once/ twice in a week) and store food in the refrigerator. All you have to do then is warm it up when the tummy growls.
  • Plan your meals with whatever is available in your pantry.
  • Recycle your leftovers! Food wasted is money wasted. You can make lipsmacking recipes with leftovers and they are easy to prepare too. Like veg fried rice from leftover rice or a quick sandwich from leftover salad!
  • Having a healthy & filling breakfast not only keeps your weight and sugar levels in check but also decreases that midmorning urge to snack. That way you stay healthier and a penny richer. Try oatmeal, if you are a fan.
  • Carry lunch to work. Now that's what I had meant by having the will to change your habits. At the end of the day it doesn't matter who thinks what and who knows you might be setting an example for others to follow!
  • Is the roadside tantalizing aroma of delicious foods making you spend unnecessarily? Simple: change your route! Well this may be easily said than done for some but for others it may be a wise solution.
  • Avoid eating out instead stay in and party with friends. Its cheaper and more fun! You can all help prepare a meal, play cards, games or watch a movie cozily. Not every holiday or off means going out to relax, you can relax at home too. Saves you a lot of cash!
  • Avoid friends with bad or lavish habits. They can probably afford and may not be in a debt pit as you are. You don't have to tag along always. Learn to say no.
  • Cut down on your luxuries. Learn to live simple.
  • Pack food for road trips. Saves you time, fuel and cash.
  • Prefer water over any other drink. Its cheaper and a healthier option.

BE A LOVING PARENT NOT A RICH ONE.

What do kids really need? I am not talking about their wants, mind you. Love, care and attention. That is what they usually seek. There are many ways to do that, spend time with them, listen to them, play mentally and physically challanging games. Don't always build a habit of buying watever they ask for. Explain the reasons.

Costly toys and gadgets gives momentary pleasure, long term addiction and ill effects. You are actually driving your children away from enjoying their innocent childhood by keeping them hooked onto gadgets. It's okay to use these technology when necessary but it usually becomes a habit difficult to control. So gift your children appropriately and wisely. Let them know the real meaning and value of the word gift, only then they will consider it precious.

FOCUS ON SELF-CHANGE

  • Try fixing things around the house yourself before you call for help. There are online tutorials for almost everything these days. This will increase your knowledge, better your skills and even if you fail, you will know exactly what you could have done the next time you encounter the same problem.
  • Mend your own clothes instead of just throwing them away. Try, yeah! It's really easy. A stitch in time saves nine! Now take that literally please.
  • Go through your closet and be honest with yourself. What you don't really need could be sold online or offline.
  • For God's sake quit smoking. You are trading hard earned cash for smoke and ashes, lung cancer and all other hideous diseases. Yes, you do have that willpower and CAN do it! So just STOP but not before you sit down and spend time calculating just how much cash you have lost till date for such a deadly habit. You could have been richer, couldn't you?
  • Swap books, cds, Vcds etc with friends, in library or shops or even online.
  • Cancel  memberships in gyms/clubs/ magazines/newspapers which you hardly use. You can always rejoin when necessary.
  • If possible, exercise at home or at a friends' who have gym equipments instead of joining an expensive gym especially if you aren't that regular.
  • Be hygienic.  Saves you on medical bills.
  • Save water, electricity and fuel. Switch off all appliances/lights/fans etc when not in use. Prefer to walk when you can and save on fuel.
  • Cut on cable/dish services for tv. Be honest to yourself is it worth paying all that money for just watching it for an hour or so per day? Mostly, life is too busy to give time to our families and other times you are caught dozing in front of the tv anyways! Instead use that time to think of starting a side business or paying a visit to an orphanage, the latter will make you realise how rich and privileged you are!

CASH MANAGEMENT
  • Pay yourself first. Remove little chunk from your salary for your savings as soon as you
receive cash/salary. Thereafter, pay for the necessities: food, shelter, electricity,  water etc.
  • Budget. A written record is always the best way to help you save. Try sticking to it. It's okay if sometimes you can't but mostly you should.
  • Carry minimal cash in your wallet/purse daily. The more you have the more you'll be tempted to spend.
  • If you are very good at spending impulsively than (Fixed deposit) FD or (recurring deposit) RD your cash. No matter how small the amount or how low the returns, remember something is better than nothing and ofcourse Rome wasn't built in a day.
  • Avoid buying things on EMI's, credit or loan. Its just a long term burden both mentally and financially. If you calculate, in the long run you may actually be payimg more than the real value of the commodity that you bought. Have a simple principle: no cash, no purchase.
  • Always keep a track of your debts however small, and pay it off as soon as you have cash even if it means paying in piecemeal.
  • Stop the habit of borrowing cash from here and there. Friends may lend you but they too will get vexed and you are only making your debt load worse. Learn to stretch your legs as far as the blanket allows.
  • Keep a piggy bank handy. Save all your loose change in it. Someday, you will be grateful that you did this.
  • Have future goals in mind. At 25, you may find it silly to save for your retirement. At 40, you will be regretting why you didn't. Start saving early.
  • Have two or three bank accounts when cash permits. Compare the interest rates and start FD or RD even for minimal capital and period of time. Rotate the same cash or add on again and again depending on interest rates. Slowly over time the returns may become significant.

REMEMBER:
  • Always invest where safety is guaranteed.
  • Make few sacrifices and debts aren't defeatable.
  • Have patience. Not everyone can become a millionaire overnight in legal ways except for few lucky ones.
  • Incase of life threatening debt situations, talk to your family members or friends. Somebody is bound to help you out.
  • Never give up. There is always an alternative. You just need to look for it. Make sure its legal.

Having good rest is of paramount importance for rejuvenation and overall well being. Sleep deprived individuals have obviously been noted to be less productive than their well-rested counterparts handling the same work.

If you are the time-watcher till you slumber or find it difficult to sleep again after waking up in the middle of the night, then you are at the right place!

Keep reading and see if you can incorporate sleep hygiene in your daily routine and get that much needed beauty sleep.

  • Tame your internal clock
When it comes to sleep, both quality and quantity matters. We all have an inbuilt sleep rhythm which we have been disrupting day in and day out.  To achieve optimum sleep, one has to reset the internal clock to default circadian rhythm.

Set both sleeping and wake up times the same daily and follow them religiously. Incase of any deviation from this, especially on  weekends or holidays, wake up at set times and try to compensate the lost sleep with a mid morning nap. Do be careful with naps though, as some people get trouble sleeping at night even if they take a 15 minutes catnap. Incase of insomnia, its best to avoid naps altogether or to take them in the early afternoon.

Try to resist sleeping before your set time. If you are too drowsy then  involve yourself in a light activity. Get up and move about, prepare clothes for the next day or call up a friend.

  • Bedroom is the place to unwind.
Do not make your bedroom another workstation with all your gadgets on the bed glaring at you and work stress possessing your mind. A bedroom should be cool, quiet, have soft lights and comfortable matress & pillow that invites slumber & romance. Keep worries, television and work out of your bedroom.

  • Regular workouts
Regular exercises help to prolong deep phase of sleep. It also makes the body and mind alert and hence vigorous exercises are best done anywhere from 3 to 6 hours prior to your bedtime. While vigorous exercises have added benefits towards improving the quality of sleep, light exercises like stretching or Yoga also promotes sleep.

Don't expect miracles to happen overnight though. Exercises show good sleeping results over time. So start exercising first, good sleep will automatically follow.

  • Watch what you eat
Avoid caffeine containing drinks closer to bedtime. Dine atleast 2 to 3 hours before bedtime. Regular consumption of alcohol messes up your overall sleep cycle and the quality of sleep although it lets you sleep faster after consuming it.

Opt for lighter and smaller portions of food at night. Try and avoid fatty and spicy food.

Go slow on lotsa liquids near bedtime as it can cause frequent trips to washroom and disturb sleep.

QUICK TIPS TO ENHANCE SLEEP
  • Listen to soft music
  • Read by soft light
  • Listen to books on tape
  • Have warm bath
  • Do simple preparations for the next day
  • Do easy stretches/calming yoga asanas
  • Enjoy relaxing body massages.
  • Pamper yourself with luxury of pedicure/manicure
  • Keep your immediate environment (room) dimly lit, tranquil and cool.
  • Incorporate sleep promoting foods in your diet like fish, cherry tart juice, whole grains, yoghurt, bananas and fortified cereals.

  • Control your light exposure
Adequate exposure to sunlight during the day and lights out at night signals brain to regulate melatonin- a hormone responsible for maintaining sleep-wake cycle. Any artifical lights emitted by gadgets, tv etc at inappropriate and prolonged times can disturb this mechanism. Therefore, during the day get maximum light exposure and remain alert while during the nights prefer darkness and sleep well.

  • Calm down
Residual anger, stress or grief can snatch away relaxed sleep. Therefore, leave all your worries outside the bedroom. Jot down your list of problems and their way forward if any, keep the paper in other room along with all your tensions. Plan to get back to it the next day.

Do some relaxation exercises,  or practice relaxing thoughts and if your problem is negative thoughts than click here for added help.

  • Trouble continuing sleep?
Sometimes you may wake up in the middle of the night with anxiety,  note down the cause of the anxiety on a piece of paper and plan to think over it the next day.

Many a times after a disturbed sleep, its hard to fall back to sleep. Instead of staring at the table clock ticking away it's better to take a book to read by a soft light or try relaxation techniques like thinking about a tranquil environment, taking deep breathes or meditation. If sleep seems far away after 15 minutes of trying, than you could take a light snack but be careful not to make it a habit.

  • Still unable to sleep well?
Prolonged sleep disturbances causes exhaustion and reduced ability to focus. The outcome is ill health and reduction in productivity at work. In such cases it is wise to rule out some underlying medical conditions (sleeping disoders) like insomnia.

Take medical advise before resorting to any inappropriate use of self medications especially sleeping pills.

Do you frequently feel like, "Oh no! It's Monday again!" "Same old boring job" and "tired of routine life." Lament no more! Here are ways to make these crappy days more interesting. Did you realise what's common among the three draggy clauses: routine life, blue Mondays and same old job? YOU of course! So actually days, jobs or people aren't really a problem but the problem is your outlook towards them. Now that you have realised the real drawback of your spiceless life,  it's time to change your perspective.

Of course you can't always have awesome days, there are going to be gloomy ones too but here is how you can improve most of your days:

Pre-plan
A successful day needs to be organized and easy to go through. This happens if you pre-plan the to-do-list a day before. Make a realistic list priority wise and possibly include time frame too. That way you can manage your time wisely.

Get optimum sleep
Good days usually are the ones with an early start. If you are well rested you will have plenty of energy the next day. So, follow the 'Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise' principle.

See the Sunrise
Wake up a little earlier than usual, so that you have ample time to laze around till your alarm goes off. Do make a point of walking in a lush green area or simply opening up the window and lettin' the fresh cool air fill your lungs. Listen to the chirrup of the birds as you witness the first rays of the Sun. This is one crucial time to close your eyes, think positive & happy thoughts and smile contentedly thinking about all the good things you have in life.

Stretch
Warm up your muscles. Do light and easy exercises to energize yourself. Yoga is another option. Nothing gives a better zeal than morning exercise. Try it.

Enjoy your toilet
Showering, dressing up sharp and smelling good always have added advantages. Who doesn't like looking good? Feeling fresh energises oneself. But make sure whatever you wear, clothes or shoes, you should feel comfortable in them.

Breakfast: the day's fuel!
If you want sustained energy for the day and avoid weight gain than daily healthy breakfast is a must.

Sitting idle is boring
Life should always be on the go. Sitting stagnant makes our body's bolts rust. Hence be grateful that you have work (a job or simply housework) to look forward to. No matter how much you dislike your job or collegues, take a moment to appreciate that atleast you have one. Not every one works for money others do it for pleasure and satisfaction. Besides, moving about keeps you healthy and active. Whatever your reasons may be, if you have a job better give it your best shot!

Add a bounce in your step
This works like magic. Even when you feel like dragging your feet, try walking faster as if you are very late for an important meeting. See how energized you feel in just few steps!

Keep your head down
Clashes and regrets are often avoided if words don't complicate them. The lesser you speak the lesser chances of misunderstandings.  When you get angry or upset it is best to take deep breathes and count till 10, reframe any harsh words before you let them out. Remember we are all adults, difference of opinion is expected and is healthy in a way. Try to understand what others are trying to convey. Don't jump to conclusions.

Break time
You can't keep working doggedly the whole day! Take frequent breaks in between work. Change posture, stretch out, drink water, take a walk to your colleagues station, enjoy the view outta your window or simply close your eyes and rest (do NOT doze off though).

Be up to date
Try and complete all your tasks earliest possible.  Never be in the habit of postponing things and stretching up on deadlines. Communicate clearly, have the correct and complete knowledge about your project. Never lie, hide or blame others for your mistakes. Ask for advice and guidance whenever necessary. Be humble, kind and friendly.

Office to-do-list
Before leaving your office, make a list of activities that needs your attention the next day. That way you will mentally be prepared and well organised for upcoming tasks.

Have a hobby
Utilize your free time doing something you love besides your work.

Home sweet home
As you step into your house, leave outside all your work tensions. Be grateful that you have a roof, bed and family to return to. Spend quality time with family, listen to how they spent their day. Don't just slump yourself on sofa with TV remote in one hand and start ordering around. If you live singly than call your loved ones and enjoy catching up.

Relax
Freshen up, eat well and read/watch something hilarious that puts your mind in relaxation mode. Listening to soothing music helps some people sleep better. Pre-plan your next day and sleep early. It's recommended to have 8 hours undisturbed sleep a day, so sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite!

Many a times we may have all the correct tools to soar higher in life but the only thing that may be cutting our wings short could be the lack of self confidence.

Self confidence fuels our dreams and goals to their destinations. One may have gold medals and distinctions in his field but a simple job interview or an invitation for public speaking can make him sweat his palms off.

Luckily, lack of self confidence is not like painting the moon but adopting a few corrective self behavioural changes can make it achievable.

There are many ways in which you can gain self confidence, let's look at some few here.

  1. Appearance. It's always easy to make external changes than internal. Sharply dressed and well groomed individual wins the heart of others at the very first glance. When we get accepted & approved  by others we feel confident, that's human nature. Look clean, smell good and carry that bright smile always.
  2. Posture matters. The way you carry yourself in front of others, shows how you feel about yourself. How do you think we label people as proud, arrogant, unfriendly without even talking to them? Carry yourself tall, walk with a pep in your step, sit adopting the posture of your chair & make eye contact! People will automatically get the point that you mean business.
  3. Love yourself. This is in queue with point number 1. Whatever your physique may be, learn to be comfortable with yourself. If you are overweight/obese (seriously, you need to loose weight for health reasons) accept the fact but do not let it interfere with your job affairs. Take it as a challenge and do something about it to change it. When you are happy with yourself you will be more confident.
  4. Believe only after self experience.  Don't believe in hearsay and lose your self confidence early. People describe others according to how they perceive them and through their experiences. It is therefore wise never to judge a new person before getting a chance to get to know them. Similarly, there is no need to be scared of anyone as long as what you doing is right.
  5. Be calm and composed. When the sudden bout of lack of confidence strike you, one of the best option is to be calm and composed. Do not talk unless questioned. Meanwhile you can take few deep breathes and gain control over your nervous wreck.
  6. Voice your opinions. In a meeting/group discussion it is a good practice to participate by speaking out your ideas instead of retaining them and keep wondering "What if I had." Your inputs may or may not get approval , but that is secondary.  Slowly you will gain confidence to express yourself in public.
  7. Knowledge is power. I believe in this seriously. At the end of the day self confidence only comes and stays there when you know you have enough basic knowledge in your field. When you do so, you will fear no challange and no one. Hence, constantly be in touch with the updates in your field of interest.
  8. Get up and keep moving. That's life! Failures are part of life. You may fail at multiple attempts but when you keep trying you keep learning from your mistakes and no one can stop you from achieving your goals. After all, teaching is learning twice! And failures are teachers.
  9. Diary: Your secret weapon. Indeed it is 80% added self confidence when you know your fears. Have them jotted down, all your drawbacks & failing points. Jot down ways to overcome them besides each of those. Implement one by one and see yourself gain back your self confidence.
  10. Have a positive outlook. Life is all about ups and downs. Everyone faces hurdles. Step back for a while and go through all the good things that you have in your life and compare them to the have nots. This will teach you to be humble and grateful. Whatever you have achieved so far has all been an exam, yet you succeeded.  Life will keep giving you challenges, face them, survive them. Never let negative thoughts conquer you. You must know by now that your magic mantra is you CAN do it. Praise others whenever you get an opportunity, this will earn you more friends and more confidence.

The above list of ways to gain self confidence is of course not exhaustive.  Feel free to share your fears and how you overcame them in the comment box below.

Leader is a person who influences a group of people towards the achievement of a goal.

There are several definitions of the word leader but the one above is one of the best fit.

Leadership is an art of transforming dreams into reality with cummulative efforts of a team. It's all about inspiring others to pursue your vision to the extend that it becomes a shared vision and ultimately a shared success.

Great personalities like famous Kings, Presidents and freedom fighters come into our minds when we hear the word leader. This is because we identify those heart-touching qualities in them that made us appreciate their efforts but really, it is not only as we grow up that we understand what a leader should be like, rather it is what we have in us (since we were young) that we want to see implemented by others to achieve a certain goal.

Do you recall how all eyes fell on that one particular person when the teacher asked your class, "Who would you want to be your class monitor?" The leadership qualities are present in many of us but due to various reasons we do not let them surface. Instead we look upon a person who has in them, what one feels should be the right approach towards tackling a certain challenge.

The qualities of a good leader are subjective and several but a great leader knows to display the appropriate quality at the appropriate moment.

Here are some of the qualities that we look for in a leader :

  • Respectful
  • Humble
  • Courageous
  • Honest/has integrity and moral values
  • Transparent
  • A visionary
  • A strategic planner
  • Confident/assertive
  • Committed
  • Creative
  • Focused
  • Has ability to adapt
  • Able to delegate
  • Presentable in appearance and speech
  • Sensitive
  • A good listener
  • Approachable
  • Can set example
  • Consistent
  • Works along with others
  • Determined
  • Inspirational

The above qualities are self explanatory. These basic qualities plus many others (not mentioned here) play in synchrony, depending on the situation to bring about a change that is noteworthy.

A leader stands out in a crowd not because he is always loud but because he is calm and composed and allows others to speak their mind.

He is appreciated by others because he is determined to achieve what others think is difficult or impossible. He make things happen. He delegates relevant duties which best suits an individual's capability to have optimum results.

Leaders are born everyday but only few are exemplary and memorable because their action speaks louder than their words.

Lashed down by torrential rain which turned streets into waterways leaving thousands roofless, hungry and wet, Chennai indeed experienced a nightmare in which many innocent lives were lost.

What it did in return is the talk of the day, though. The long forgotten humanity and solidarity were reawakened in face of recent terrorism and war.

In recent times, people have been living a mechanical life which is limited to working, sleeping, eating and occasionally personal indulgence. Socialization and social circle is now an online affair. Times have gone when evening meant sitting outside the house with neighbours and seeing kids play on the streets.

The true colours of life like peace, love, laughter, friendship and humanity have long ceased to exist in the majority.

Standing together shoulder-to-shoulder and reaching out to our fellow humans who are going through such a crucial phase in life has again evoked such forgotten traits.

In this era, where religious differences, rascism, revenge, anger and hatred reigns, Chennai catastrophe has unearthed the existing humanity; a force so powerful that overcomes any boundary set by nation, caste, creed or social status.

Natural calamity doesn't differentiate between the rich and the poor. Properties and assets are of no use when there is no foothold to stand upon. Yet, these are the common  reasons of enmity, grudges and lost lives. The true assets are the human relations which have been buried deep down and needs to be revived.

The various helping hands and praying lips during the calamity will be well rewarded with health and wealth, for what goes around does come around.

The message is loud and clear: The world should be a playground of peace and love where existence is a joy and not a war-field where life has no value and death is routine.

Understanding a person who matters to you gives a great deal of hand-grip on your reaction towards them. Whether you are meeting them for the first time or you are getting their first glance from a distance, their body language can speak volumes before you actually get to know them.

Similarly, your body language gives out a lot of clues about your thinking and feelings to other people.

Therefore, kinesics - the study of body movements and gestures as a form of non verbal communication, is an important key to interpreting a person as a whole. Of course, kinesics is as complex as fully understanding a human being but a simplified version of it can give you a general idea about a person.

A point to stress here is that; not all body movements or gestures mean the same always, hence its upon you to interpret them appropriately in the correct context.

Below are ten such body gestures that usually mean what it says.

  1. A head nod - indicates agreement,  a submissive gesture indicating that the person is willing to follow your words.
  2. Walking with hands in pockets with hunched shoulders - indicates dejection.
  3. Stroking beard/chin - frequently done unconsciously while in deep thought or concentration.
  4. Arms crossed in front of the chest - a defensive gesture expressing disagreement with actions or opinions of others.
  5. Head tilt to one side - especially as an audience, shows that the person is listening intently.
  6. Standing with hands on hips - indicates aggression or readiness, this person is feeling defiant.
  7. Shifting weight from one foot to another is a sign of impatience, fear, excitement, nervousness or it may mean feeling intimidated as well.
  8. Drumming or finger tapping - quite a common gesture, signalling impatience or tired of waiting.
  9. Open palms facing upwards - are expressions of honesty, innocence, sincerity and submission.
  10. Head held high - indicates fearlessness, superiority, arrogance especially if accompanied by a jutting chin.

Remedies for a blue day.

There are days when we feel real low or simply energyless and miss that zest to gear up our body & mind to match the speed of our daily activities.

So what could be done on such a day to boost our mood up?

Here are few tips that can better such a day:

  • Look good! One thing that we can control is our appearance. Feeling dull doesn't necessarily mean that it has to be reflected exteriorly as well. Put on that favourite attire of yours which always fetches you compliments. Looking good boosts up self confidence and of course added compliments will definitely make you feel better.
  • Walk taller and sit straighter. Our body posture speaks volumes about our self confidence even if you are feeling quite the opposite inside.
  • Flash that million dollar smile. It is said that always smile as you never know who is falling in love with it!  Most of the time this gesture suffices to replace words that might seem like an effort on such a day when you just want to be left alone.
  • Cut conversations short. Instead of replying in long sentences and getting involved in deep discussions, simply go for gestures such as a nod, a smile, a shake of head, a simple yes or no and the like. This discourages further dialogue and if the person opposite you is keen enough, he/she will leave you alone! After all, you arent in the mood for a company now.
  • Do what pleases you the most. Take advantage and brighten your day, go for things that you enjoy doing like listening to your favourite music (let it not be some sad or depressing number), solving crosswords, playing games, reading jokes or stories etc. All these are immediately accessible if you have a smartphone with a net connection.
  • Pamper yourself. You deserve it! After all what's all the hard earned cash for. Eat out that favourite dish of yours, go shopping or to a movie (you can even ask a friend out! Remember the more the merrier) or go get that massage thay you always wanted. Its a perfect day to let your senses have treat.
  • Hibernate. Sleeping off a blue day conserves energy and relaxes mind & body. The last thing you want is to encounter more people and discuss more issues on this day. Sleep off and you will wake up more fresher and energetic to face the next day!
